Cranky Cross/AZCross #1 - Globe

The long awaited cyclocross season got underway in Arizona this past weekend in Globe.  Flat Tire Cross p/b Flat Tire Bike Shop was a huge success for the team.  We had 4 juniors take the line - Liam and first time CX racer Luke for boys 9-14, and Emma & Avery lined up for girls 9-18.  It was a fast paced race from start to finish!  Liam got off to an early lead that he was able to hold until the end.  Luke started off strong and battled back and forth for 4th place.  His tenacity and determination carried him to the end to keep 4th.  Emma battled back and forth with newcomer Bella for the first lap, but was able to pull away for the win.  Avery had a strong race, coming from behind to snag 2nd. All in all, it was a great start to the fall racing season.  Everyone had a great time at a well put on event.  Thank you to Scott Wortendyke and Nick Thomas Photography for the amazing pictures!

Mt Graham Hill Climb - AZ State Hill Climb Championship

After a day of cyclocross racing, the crew headed down to Safford, AZ for the Arizona State Hill Climb Championship on Mt Graham.  For the juniors, the climb consisted of a 10 mile race with 3000 ft of vertical climbing.  Suiting up for the challenge for junior boys 11-12 was Liam, for girls 11-12 was Avery, and Emma representing girls 9-10 in a category that has never had a winner.  Liam had a strong start and gave it all he had to come across the line in 1st place with an impressive time of 1 hr 13 minutes.  The girls teamed up and rode together for the entire race encouraging each other to keep going.  They crossed the line with matching times of 1 hr 42 min.  It was an impressive display of athleticism, teamwork, and sportsmanship by all three!
